Museum Education Roundtable
Role:Communications Manager

The Museum Education Roundtable (MER) seeks a part time contract Communications Manager (CM) to manage strategic development and oversight of all communications and marketing activities for the MER and its primary output: the Journal of Museum Education (JME). The CM is responsible for MER’s digital communications strategies including social media, marketing including advertising, public relations, and audience development efforts. The role reports to the President of the MER Board of Directors, and is a highly collaborative position that liaises with other board members, the JME’s publisher (Taylor & Francis) and paid contractors (including the JME Co-Editors and and especially with the newly created Operations Manager position). The CM attends monthly virtual Communications Team meetings, quarterly virtual board meetings, and an annual retreat (virtual or in-person), reporting on web analytics, and supporting other MER projects. This position plays an essential role in promoting the organization and its publication, meeting the needs of MER members, supporting and advancing MER’s equity and inclusion work, and, in doing so, furthering scholarship in the field of museum education.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team at the California African American Museum (CAAM). Founded in 1977, the California African American Museum’s (CAAM) mission is to research, collect, preserve, and interpret, for public enrichment, the history, art, and culture of African Americans. In 1984, CAAM moved to its 44,000-square-foot home at Exposition Park, South of Downtown Los Angeles.
With an emphasis on California and the western United States, the museum’s permanent collection houses 4,000 objects, including paintings, photographs, film, sculpture, historical documents, and artifacts. CAAM avidly supports the work of under-represented artists of color to genuinely represent how people of the African diaspora have contributed to American culture and the world at large through temporary art and history exhibitions and public programming for visitors of all ages.
We’re seeking ten Museum Guides to join our team! Under supervision of the Guide Supervisor, Museum Guide, will be a part of a team that serves as the first point of contact for guests, ensuring that they have a pleasant, safe, and informative experience at the California African American Museum. This position is temporary-intermittent, working a maximum of 1000 hours per fiscal year. The work schedule will be set during the museum’s regular business hours, seven days per week, from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s day. May be required to work weekends and holidays.
