Writing for Publications with the Museum Education Roundtable/Journal of Museum Education

Learn about the various ways you can write for publications like the Journal of Museum Education. In particular, guests will hear from authors, guest editors, and the current Editor in Chief of the JME. Their presentations will focus on writing techniques, working with editors, co-editing your own issue, and peer reviewing articles.
Panelists
David Bowles is an informal educator with a passion for empowering museum visitors of all ages and backgrounds, and a knack for helping participants harness the power of interpretation. He currently works as Gallery Educator at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, where he and his team guide teaching and learning practices across the museum’s physical and digital spaces. Before moving to Los Angeles in 2016, David led K-12 School Programs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as well as the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City. He collaborates with regional museums and cultural institutions on topics like staff and docent training, DEAI, and learner engagement. David has served on the board of the New York City Museum Educators Roundtable (NYCMER) and the Museum Education Roundtable (MER), and he continues to offer peer-review for the Journal of Museum Education. David holds an M.S. Ed in Museum Education from Bank Street College, and a B.A. with Honours in Art History from McGill University.
Brooke DiGiovanni Evans (she/her/hers) has been working in museums for over 20 years at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Harvard Art Museums, Harvard Museum of Natural History, Plimoth Plantation, Boston Museum of Science and the Peabody Essex Museum. She has focused on museum education, curatorial work, program evaluation, and exhibition development. Currently she serves on the Board for the New England Museum Association. In 2017, she was awarded an Excellence Award for her work in the museum field by NEMA. Brooke served as the President of the Museum Education Roundtable and guest-edited two issues of the Journal of Museum Education produced by MER. She is also the author of a children’s book “Are You an Art Sleuth?” published in five languages. Currently she is an adjunct faculty at Boston University and Northeastern University.
Wendy Ng is a museum education specialist, consultant, and author working to change cultural institutions through diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism praxis. She has implemented strategic plans, change management, and culture transformation initiatives rooted in anti-oppression throughout her career managing educational programming in large public institutions including the Ontario Science Centre, Royal Ontario Museum, and Art Gallery of Ontario. She is a Board Member of the Museum Education Roundtable.
Lauren Monsein Rhodes, Phd, is the design research strategist at Crown Equipment Corporation. Her prior engagements include consulting on projects for Slover Linett Audience Research and Novo Nordisk. She was formerly the Senior Education Manager at Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, Assistant Professor in the Cultural and Social Anthropology Program at University of Latvia, and Visiting Lecturer at RISEBA Faculty of Architecture and Design. She sat on the Board of Directors of the Museum Education Roundtable from 2016 to 2019.
Cynthia Robinson is the director of museum studies and senior lecturer at Tufts University, where she specializes in museum education. She spent 25 years working in and with museums and has extensive experience in developing programs, curricula and exhibitions, as well as in museum management and administration. Cynthia is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Museum Education and also serves on the board of the New England Museum Association.
